Derek Paravicina is the well known blind and autistic jazz pianist as featured on channel 5 TV “Extraordinary People”. Derek has played with RPO Pop Orchestra and alongside Jools Holland. Derek performs at Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club and was featured in a charity concert in Hollywood.
Nick Shaw - Savant pianist and cellist as featured on Radio 4 documentaries about unusual musical gifts. Nick will perform on piano and cello.
Derek Paravicini and Nick Shaw are both extraordinarily talented musicians, despite being blind and having learning difficulties. They have both been described as having 'savant syndrome' - prodigious ability in one area despite severe disability otherwise. Nick Shaw’s amazing musical talent was revealed when he started to play the piano before he was two years old. He now also plays the cello and church organ, and regularly performs with Redhill Sinfonia. He has been the subject of a Radio 4 documentary about unusual musical gifts. Derek has a repertoire of many thousands of pieces that he has memorised - jazz, pop and light classical - and he is a great improviser. He has played in venues across the UK, including Ronnie Scott's and the Barbican Halls in London, in Europe and the U.S. and he has appeared in the news media across the world.
